Vacancy: Sales Manager

At our site in Chesterfield, we are looking for an ambitious and motivated Sales Manager to join our Sales Team. Reporting to the Group Commercial Director, this is an excellent opportunity for an individual from a background in manufacturing and technical sales.

As a successful candidate you will need to display confidence working in a target driven environment, combined with proven experience in technical sales, distribution management and managing an existing customer base. You will be given responsibility requiring you to organise your workload and be proactive. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who has a forward thinking approach to work with proven experience of working within a challenging manufacturing environment.

Main activities/responsibilities/key tasks, including, but not limited to:

  • Develop and implement sales and business development strategies for UK markets as requested by your line manager and/or the Fusion Group board. The proposed strategies to achieve contract sales and profit targets in line with company objectives.
  • Meet key accounts as detailed on a regular basis to establish and maintain relationships, sell in new products and services, and ensure customer service expectations are met and exceeded.
  • Support commercial policies and actively participate in strategies as developed and communicated by Fusion senior management.
  • Assist and support distributors and agents in your assigned regions, areas and markets ensuring that any sales and marketing resources are applied effectively to support international contracts with utilities and pipeline contractors.
  • Manage and regularly evaluate existing distributors and customers and the activity in their markets:
  • Sales v Targets
  • Sale v ROI
  • Market activity including competitor activity, price levels, new products, technical specifications, working practices, political developments, market structures etc.
  • Provide regular feedback on the above to the wider team
  • Set pricing/margin strategy for contracts to ensure Fusion retains the business and maximises profitability.
  • Gather market information and feed to your line manager, the team and marketing manager to help assess and revise company marketing strategies.
  • Actively develop an ‘alliance/partnering relationship’ with all key customers. Identify new products, services and methods of working in order to maintain the competitive position of Fusion and its global distributors and agents.
  • Identify, monitor and record competitor activity. Define and implement strategies needed to respond to competitor activity and maintain business levels.
  • Constantly review market trends in an effort to identify new supply opportunities in UK markets.
  • Act as the expert in the following fields and provide colleagues with the requisite information and assistance. Specific field(s) of expertise has (have) been identified as:
  • A – Butt Fusion and Electrofusion Fittings for the Water and Gas Industry
  • B – Spigot Fitting specialist
  • C – Sales of manufactured goods or services, including tendering processes
  • Maintain a folder of up-to-date contact information for all current, prospective and dormant customers and other stakeholders such that, should you be assigned a new region, a colleague could readily pick up portfolio of business with minimal disruption to customer service.
  • Ensure your training needs are met in order to develop and maintain the status of ‘Fusion Product and Service Expert’. The onus for action is on you.
  • Close liaison with suppliers to ensure secure supply chain and to be involved in establishing the commercial and logistics strategy.

Ideally you’ll have:

  • Solid background in a manufacturing environment and technical sales (essential)
  • Confident and experiences in a target driven environment
  • Approximately 5+ years’ experience is needed to perform the job at a competent level
  • Proven experience of technical sales, distribution management and managing an existing customer base
  • Knowledge of polyethylene pipe jointing industry (desirable)
  • Highly experienced in working under own initiative, demonstrating an ability to set & meet personal targets, combined with the flexibility to adjust to workload priorities to take account of new deadlines
  • Inquisitive nature
  • Interpersonal and communication skills and a commitment to customer service with ability to influence
  • Awareness of wider Company issues and relevant legislation. Required to keep informed of changes in legislation and departmental policy to deliver correct advice
  • Ability to organise and prioritise workload, maintain confidentiality, and produce/process documents accurately
  • Good written and numerical skills
  • IT knowledge, including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • A flexible, forward-thinking approach to work, along with the ability to work as part of a team
  • Fluent in English
  • Full UK Driver’s Licence & valid Passport

Rewarding Loyalty

There are awards available to long‐serving members of the Fusion Family. After five years employees gain one additional day’s holiday, with a further day awarded after ten, fifteen and twenty years’ service (maximum of 4 extra days holiday). Fusion has many employees who have been with the company for twenty years or more. On the twentieth anniversary of joining Fusion, employees receive a certificate and cheque and there is a further certificate and cheque upon attaining twenty five and 30 years’ service.

Information about processing of personal data – recruitment


Processing of personal data in relation to recruitment

The purpose of collecting personal data about you during the recruitment process is to assess whether you are a qualified candidate for a position in Fusion Group.

When you apply for a position with us, we receive and process an amount of personal data about you. That makes us data controllers of your personal data.

In the context of recruiting, we process ordinary personal data but occasionally we may also process special categories of data such as national ID-number or information about criminal convictions and offences.

When we receive your application

During the recruitment process we register the information which we receive from you in your application, your CV and any other documents you send us.

Typically, we receive the following data: Name, address, date of birth, gender, phone number, email address, national ID-number, marital status, educational background, career history, driving license details, references

You have provided us with the personal data yourself, and they will be processed in preparation of a possible employment and subsequent signing of an employment contract.

We process the data in our staff administration system.


Assessment of applications

We specifically assess the qualifications of each applicant as compared to the requirements of the job advertisement. After screening the applications, we choose candidates for interview(s). The candidates, who were not eligible for an interview, will be notified by us.


When you have been selected for an interview

Prior to and during recruitment interviews we receive additional information about you which we register for use in the recruitment process.

You have provided us with the personal data yourself, and they will be processed in preparation of a possible employment and subsequent signing of an employment contract.

Information from social media

When we recruit for position with a focus on customer or cooperation relations it may be relevant to conduct a search on professional social networking sites e.g LinkedIn.

We use the rule of balancing of interests in the General Data Protection Regulation as our basis for collecting information about candidates from social media. We do so to be able to assess whether your profile matches the company and the specific position.


Information from personality profiling tests

In connection with some job openings we use personality profiling tests. We always assess whether it is relevant for the position in question. The purpose of the test is to assess whether your competences and qualifications as a possible employee and to assess whether your profile matches the company and the specific position.

We use your consent as our basis for processing this data and we will therefore ask your consent before completing the test. You are always free to withdraw your consent and you may do so by contacting us via the above contact info. If you withdraw your consent, the withdrawal is only effective from the time of the withdrawal. Withdrawing your consent does not impact the lawfulness of our processing of the data until the time the consent was withdrawn.


Criminal record certificate

With some positions we need to receive a copy of your criminal record certificate (DBS). We always assess the relevance of this for the specific position. For example we may check applicants for the post of a Security Guard so we can make a suitablity check taking in to account convictions and conditional cautions that are considered to be unspent under the terms of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (ROA) 1974.

We only collect a criminal record certificate after an offer of employment, and in that connection, we will always ask for your consent.


Criminal record certificates are not stored, but deleted after employment

If we have collected a copy of your criminal record certificate, we delete it immediately after logging that we have seen it.


Information from previous employer

With some positions we need to collect references from previous employers. If we collect any data from one or more of your previous employers, we register the received information.

We use your consent as our basis for processing these data and we will therefore ask your consent before contacting one or more of your previous employers. You are always free to withdraw your consent and you may do so by contacting us via the above contact info. If you withdraw your consent, the withdrawal is only effective from the time of the withdrawal. Withdrawing your consent does not impact the lawfulness of our processing of the data until the time the consent was withdrawn.


Residence and work permit

It is a condition for your employment that you have a valid work and residence permit. To ensure this, we may ask for a copy of your passport prior to signing a contract of employment

If, because of your citizenship you must hold a work and residence permit to work legally in the UK, we furthermore collect a copy of your work and residence permit.

We are legally obliged to do so according to national immigration legislation.


Storage and deletion

If you are not eligible for a position with us, we delete all information we have received, after no more than six months.

If you are employed with us, we store the information which was part of the recruitment process in your HR file.


Storage of application for potential later employment

In some cases, we may want to keep your application even if you did not get an offer of employment in the first place. This would be to keep you as an option for later recruitment. In such cases, we ask for your consent.


Other recipients that may process your data

During the recruitment process, there are others who process your personal data. This could be public authorities or suppliers of IT or administrative systems and support, e.g.:

  • Suppliers of personality profiling tests etc.
  • Universal Jobmatch


Your rights

According to the General Data Protection Regulation you have a series of rights. If you wish to invoke any of your rights, please contact us.

Right of access
You are entitled to get access to the data we process about you.

Right to rectification
It is your right to have personal data about yourself rectified.

Right to erasure
In special cases, it is your right to have data deleted before the time we generally delete data.

Right to restriction of processing
In some cases, it is your right to have the processing of your personal data restricted. If you are entitled to this right, going forward we are only allowed to process the data (except from storing them) with your consent or for the establishment, exercise or defence of legal claims or for the protection of the rights of another natural or legal person or for reasons of important public interest

Right to object
In some cases, it is your right to object against our otherwise legal processing of your personal data

Right to data portability
In some cases, it is your right to receive the personal data concerning you, which you have provided to us, in a structured, commonly used and machine-readable format and you have the right to transmit those data to another controller without hindrance from company of your employment.
