Steph Wright – Sales Manager UK and Ireland

I joined Fusion on the 14th April during ‘lockdown’ due to COVID-19, some friends thought I was mad starting with a new company in such “scary” times, I had a secure job, why would I change?

But, with the support of my family and the assurances that I was working for a well-established, world-leading successful company I was raring to go and ready to take on this new challenge.

I didn’t meet any of my colleagues face-to-face for 7 weeks.  I completed my inductions via Skype meetings; with an 8 and 10 year old constantly saying ‘Mum’ to me in the background.  I won’t deny it was hard work, although made so much easier with the support of my colleagues who actually made the whole process seem very natural and as if it had always been done this way.

Now ‘lockdown’ is beginning to ease I am in the office, but have yet to visit our manufacturing, test and distribution areas, due to the rigid COVID-19 safety measures Fusion has in place to ensure the safety of its employees during the pandemic.

How will the ‘new normal’ affect your job role?

My role at Fusion is Sales Manager for UK and Ireland, supporting customers and growing the business through our distribution networks and specialised customer lines.  The role would primarily be field based, however, due to COVID-19 I am office-based for the foreseeable future.

Like most people who have field based roles, it has been difficult to adapt to for both me and the company.  Luckily, we have the technology to hand to enable us to conduct video meetings, webinars, training sessions etc…..and of course the good old telephone.  It’s a case of getting used to the ‘new normal’ for the short-term.  Be assured though as soon as I can, I will be out meeting customers and visiting sites.

What was your previous job role?

I am completely new to the utilities industry and have most recently come from the urban landscaping and civils industry.  Before that it was fireplaces and radio advertising!

There are so many experts in this industry so it doesn’t worry me…..every day is a learning day and everyone is very helpful as I go through the process of learning.  I am slowly but surely starting to understand the industry (although please don’t test me just yet).

I can’t wait to meet customers both old and new when I am able to go out and visit sites, but in the meantime if you need anything or would like to learn more please give me a call, my mobile is +44 (0)7771 018 379.
